Been awhile. Lets see where I left off.
I was getting out of the military, the boat had issues, and i was stuck repairing it.
Well I did fix the boat, and a hefty fix it was, I replaced the entire cooling system for the engine and departed the boat to go home and start a job as an electrican. Something I had been dreaming of doing since I was in the military. To have a job, a few hobbies, and to live my life. Well truth be told I was landed with a rock and a hard place.
A job I was starting to realize was not as good as I had thought it was, and took up too much time, and a boat that was hundreds of miles away. I had to make a choice. Well the boat was older, the insurance was getting expensive and it was discovered the previous owner had done a lot of quick repairs not good repairs, so I sold that boat, but simply selling it is not worth a blog post.
I took a few days off work to go back up and get it sold, first person showed up, looked at it and left. Did not even step onboard, simply said "not worth my time" anger in my belly I waited on the next person. And waited. And waited, 2 hours past the appointed time I had lunch and carried on my day. The next day I showed it to an older lady. She fell in love right away. Her "best friend" showed up and he seemed to be the one who knew quite a bit about boats, we ran through every feature of the boat, which for a 27 foot boat is not a lot. Hoisted the sails and turned on the engine. We did everything but leave the pier. A long talk about it happened afterwards, and the next day I left for home. In 2 days she paid me 4k for the boat and I said "Have fun with it captain I'll send over the bill of sale can you sign it?" Well all the legal scholars have already cringed, as I will learn. I called the marina and gave the info on the lady and said she had paid and as far as I was concerned it was her boat. a week past and the marina calls me asking if I told her to come in an register the boat. Well yes I did. We franticly try to contact the lady to no avail.
almost a month later she contacts us asking for some paperwork to which I said "I have already sent over everything, we did so when you paid the 4k for it." where my legal scholars are now yelling at the screen at how dumb I am. Don't worry I will learn my lesson. One day. The marina is sending letters and calling her, I am texting and calling trying to get this boat out of my name. Please just let me work in peace! Well almost 60 days later she signs the bill of sale in the marina's office and the marina sends us a copy. Well 3 copies, and I sighed a sigh of relief. Who pays 4k for something then refuses to do the paperwork.
Well that's it, close the blog we are not going anywhere right?
Well as you can tell with more words under this, and the fact I am keeping it as Captains Log means no there is more.
Well I was enjoying life on land for a little bit longer getting that itch to go back to sea, the plan was a small sailboat, something like a sunfish or the likes. Maybe I'll build a small 10-15 foot sailboat and sail the local rivers around us. Who knows. Well as part of the enjoying land we bought a little greenhouse from a gentleman and being a nice and nosy person I asked "Why are you selling it? You have not owned it for a year." Well this gentleman had just bought a sailboat and was planning on fixing her up to shipshape and sailing the world with her. How odd, I have experience fixing boats. Need help? Well they said yes. I went over the next week to look at their "wreck of a boat" and they were beaming when I said "She is not bad, needs work but not bad." My standards on boats are low, but they work well. Simply needs an electric bulge pump and the engine needs some love and she'll be fine. Well my one mistake from my wallets point of view is I brought my wife with me. She fell in love with the boat projects they have planned, and the planning to turn someone else's boat into their home. Before we get home she is already looking up the next boat for us to sail and repair.
A 40 foot sailboat up in North Carolina is one we are planning on visiting in the coming weeks, and now that I am adjusting to life outside the military I have much more free time, and am slowly learning how to make money. So could my downgrade be an upgrade? Follow us for more info and to see if we really do buy this boat!
